Dirt Trailbuilding started with a passion for the outdoors. Cam saw the benefits that outdoor recreation could bring to local communities. Not only for the trail users but also for sustainable growth for local businesses and communities.
Cam wanted to build trails and tracks for the community to enjoy. He started building jump tracks in 2004 at Woburn Sands, UK. It was with the ethos of you reap what you sow. When Cam returned to New Zealand he knew he wanted to turn this passion into a full time job; so he bought a digger and started putting the mahi into building trails up at Mt Hutt. He clocked in some serious volunteer hours to gain the experience required to be skilled trail builder.
Prior to founding Dirt Trailbuilding, Cam managed D&E Track & Trail from its conception in 2013. Cam has over 18 years experience designing, building and managing trail building projects.
Dirt Trailbuilding was formed in 2021 with a focus on bringing together a team of riders and outdoor enthusiasts each with their own strengths and skills resulting in high quality, safe and engaging community spaces. With the network of expertise that we have access to; no job is too big or too small. We specialise in the full spectrum of tracks including alpine single track, asphalt skills tracks, walking tracks, motocross tracks and pump tracks. We maximise the natural features of the terrain to create flow and the best most sustainable tracks with minimal impact.
We are skilled in assisting clients with public consultation and funding applications. We tailor a strategy to obtain stakeholder approval and can provide professional proposals, designs or engage with the community at public consultation events. If you're building a trail for a school, we can attend a classroom workshop and encourage the students to design features which can be incorporated into the final design.
Cam has built walking trails in collaboration with the Mount Somers Walkway Association, Department of Conservation and Environment Canterbury. A knowledge of native vegetation, building features to specifications, minimising visual impact and understanding the controls needed to build a sustainable track are key for these projects.
The build of bike tracks requires specialist knowledge that gives a track a certain 'feel or flow' that has been leant from years of riding and building trails. A high level of machinery operation skill is also required for a fast and efficient build; as there are generally no straight lines, so all shapes have to be consistent arcs that link together seamlessly.
Experienced in building from Bluff to Blenheim and in partnership with Department of Conservation, Ministry of Education, Local Councils, local clubs through to private tracks.
